Darwin: Beauty and Beast

Darwin, the beauty
At first glance I see
An elegant, graceful, sweet horse.
With a name like Darwin, how can he not be great?
Grand, 15.7 hands tall,
Black as coal, with a sweet heart inside.

When we move, he dances around the ring.
His power I must restrain.
Pure off the track thoroughbred, racing numbers tattooed,
A natural born racer.
It’s in his blood to be competitive and fierce.
He wants to be the best!

Darwin, the beast
Strength hard to control,
Bursting with off the track enthusiasm,
Bucking: Is he stubborn or spirited?
Sometimes its personality,
Sometimes its pain.

Which Darwin will I see today?  Beauty or Beast?
Will he be good?
Can I teach him something new today?
I won’t know until I’m in the ring.

Each day I go in the ring with new hope
That hope will either be shattered or fulfilled
Either way, I’ll always be proud of him.
