An Attitude Not My Own

Don’t be too fooled
by the distasteful facial expression
I may portray.
whenever we analyze,
what Shakespeare meant in Romeo and Juliet.
like someone eating a sour lemon
This look is a look of fear,
as a bear cub, left alone without parents.

Don’t be too fooled
from my standoffish attitude
whenever we learn new geometric vocab.
This attitude is one of a timid child
on her first day of Kindergarten.

Don’t be too fooled
when I snicker with carelessness,
after I am asked to differentiate Osmosis with Diffusion.
I convincingly cover up my trembling voice,
as though of a parent,
hesitantly seeing his kid off to college.

Don’t be too fooled
by my misleading vibes.
I care.
I want to learn,
To succeed in school.
