Teenage Life

She’s in the usual spot of course.
There before me ‘cause she skipped last block.
It’s sunny so she’s smiling.
She calls me over to her unfamiliar crew of friends.
Big hug, I haven’t seen her in a while…
we’re in different crowds.
Being the entertainer she is she laughs and jokes.
You’d never guess the insecurities she feels inside.
Save, she raises her hand in a dramatic gesture.
I catch a glimpse of her true self tattooed on her wrist.
There’s no way of hiding that outside giveaway.
She takes a long drag at her cigarette and smiles.
Depression.
