Mysterious Windows

A solid stone wall,
invisible, that is, to you,
keeps me a safe distance away
from harm.
Which harm, I do not know.
But I am not the kind to go
and find out.
Stories urge me to believe that
the fanciful life exists,
but I am realistic,
set in stone brick
stamped to the truth.
Kind spirits of gentle
but solid foundations
reflect the light beyond the wall.
They tell me to be courageous
and have no fears.
I am not afraid,

of being afraid.
My instincts pulse
and my intelligence slips.
Heart and mind clash
in a war
for control.
I spin in a world of
love and chaos
where I occasionally
fall and lose myself.
Mysterious windows
of wishes and hopes open
and close
against my will.
Vulnerable sides prick
at my sides.
A flicker of
chance
tells me there is no barrier.
I am my own rulebook
made up of my own rules,

but created for your approval.
Because I am actually afraid
of everything,
there is
a solid stone wall,
invisible, that is, to you.
It keeps me a safe distance away
from you.
Why you, I do not know.
But I am not the kind to go
and find out.
