Emma Badra

Car and Driver

Black sky turning to dawn as two lovers drive on the highway

Cigar in his hand creates a thick aroma that

penetrates the warm night air of summer.

Nervous eyes dart to and fro as

he glances at her,

wants to speak.

Open window; her senses fly free with the cooling wind.

Their ears are drenched in a thick silence and he wishes he could

hold her full moon face in his hands and tell her

“You are beautiful.”

If only she would turn her eyes away from the stars above

to capture his longing gaze.
