Freedom

Freedom.
it slowly settled in,
as I thought about the possibilities.

One lapse of the mind.
One break in the routine.
And the day is forever changed.

It used to be an extension of my arm.
And its sleek smooth cover shone,
with all its knowledge.

No more binds or chains.
No more stress or expectations.
The technological monkey on my back has been forgotten.

Throughout the day, students flip and slide,
hundreds of words flowing each minute.
While I stand in silence.

The waves of gossip
twist and turn, bob and weave.
Never quite reaching me.

Funny, how one item can
seem so important.
Until you realize that it is holding you back.

Without the constant interruption
of the ringing and vibrating.
I see classes and students in a new light.

I hear voices sing out,
soft and sweet, like a melody.
Rather than short and rushed, as if time was catching up to them.

The sun is brighter in the sky,
the colors of the trees glint in the rays.
My world has never been so graceful and beautiful.

With my head held high,
the world is a kaleidoscope of color and light,
that before now I had passed through with no thought.

Though I act upset
about my forgetful state,
I am secretly overjoyed

One day of calm.
One day to breathe deeply.
And my eyes are able to see the truth.

My thoughts float to new ideas of no dependence.
And it slowly settles in,
Freedom.
