Perseverance

Another plateau; my only friend.

I stare in silence,

nothing but rock surrounds me.

Each level, it grows harder to breathe,

Yet the summit never comes closer.

Like a mirage, it's in sight.

I blink, it's gone.

Like a locomotive

empty of fuel,

I keep pushing;

no movement prevails.

Instead I stand still.

Enjoy the comforts of knowing.

The air is no longer thin.

Peaks form where flat cliffs lay.

Full speed ahead.

Take it mountain by mountain,

no matter how small the climb.
