memories

remember hide and seek with glee

Underneath the eucalyptus tree,

Hoping you would discover me

Because I really had to pee.

I remember donning, it my glory

The plastic armor then so gory

And fighting my way through the cacti,

Which kept me from the eucalypti

All I wanted was one little touch

Across your soft bark, my fingers would brush

I didn’t hurry, I was in no rush

I wish I had tried harder.

I came and visited a year ago

In a fit of horror, I shouted “where’d you go?”

It couldn’t be from wind or snow,

It’s not like California had storms.

Somebody must have chopped you down

I wanted to cry, but didn’t make a sound

Because deep inside, I knew you’d found

Some taller cacti to grow around.
