Demetri Monovoukas

A Man Among Boys

He stands above the rest, better than the rest.
He is a single, searching soul in this world.

Behind glasses loom two orbs of fate.
They see his future and have witnessed his past.

He is frozen in time, like a dream
With no worries and no regrets.

A 5 o’clock shadow and bags under his eyes
Reveal the secrets of his long shifts at work.

The dusty, flannel shirt was the novel of his life,
Words embedded into the fabric with each stitch.

His smile exuded confidence but unknowing,
Skeptic of what life would throw at him.

He was held captive by the wooden prison;
His emotions never to break the hindering frame.

He stood above the rest, better than the rest.
He was a single, searching soul in this world
