Yes, We Can

Together.
All united under one common cause,
All have their own stories to tell.
In the crowd one South African woman,
Thousands of miles covered,
A historic event through her eyes.
Standing, waiting, watching, smiling.
He steps up to the podium,
Crisp black suit, smooth, chocolate skin.
Anticipation, excitement, adrenaline swirling about.
The first day of the rest of our lives,
A blank page, a clean slate.
This is history in the making,
Now is the time for change.
A thunderous rumble of applause,
The first black president is sworn in.
The White House welcomes Barack Obama.
