The Nightmare

The sun retreats

The day is complete

The lights turn out

The sky blackens out

My head hits the pillow

And images begin to billow

Awakening in the pitch-black

Nothing but surrounding darkness

Like flares, pearly white train tracks appear

Causing the darkness to disappear

Crisscrossing with perfection

Running in every possible direction

Sleek black steam engines appear

Running on the network of tracks drawing near

The trains whiz this way and that way

Hurtling past me at fleeting speeds

Suddenly in danger, I leap to safety

Avoiding the nearing train

Looking up a gigantic form looms in view

With no escape I know the end is near

I close my eyes

Expecting the worse

There was no collision

There was no crash

I open my eyes

The sun starts to rise

It was all a dream and nothing more
