The Comet

7:43.

The kids in the family room fight over the television
The woman next door yells at them for being too loud
The girl on the third floor puts on her makeup
The couple below searches for somewhere affordable to dine
The old man on the roof takes puff after puff of his pipe

8:21.

Someone reads about the comet
A few hope to remember to see it
Many only pretend to care
Most don't hear about it all

8:56.

The youngest fall asleep
The next head out to party
Those in bars begin to drink
Outside they start a brawl

9:00.

The comet --unnoticed
The bustle
The hustle
The commotion
No emotion
Continues.

9:09.

Someone remembers the comet-- too late
A few mutter words of disappointment
Many are too consumed to care
That the comet passed them by.
