"That's Baseball"

The pitcher winds, kicks and unleashes
An 85 mile per hour fastball
Belt high, straight down the middle.
The hitter’s eyes light up-
It’s his pitch!

He strides and begins his swing
Fast, short and direct.
It’s the same swing he has spent countless hours perfecting.
He makes contact, the impact like a gunshot.
It’s a rocket line drive, a frozen rope.
He has never hit a ball so hard in his life.

His heart barely has time to leap
When he realizes
After he has taken just two steps towards first base,
That he has hit the ball right at the shortstop.

His heart begins to fall,
But he understands.

Anything can happen between those two infinitely extending white lines.
You can be perfect, yet fail.
You can do everything wrong, yet have success.
Because-
“That’s Baseball”.
