Space

There’s a space between us.
They say it’s filled with air.
It grows bigger and shrinks smaller.
Yet always, it is there.
It rubs against my shoulder,
It reaches to your hand.
It’s bigger than an ocean,
Smaller than a grain of sand.
I tried to push straight through it,
So I could reach to you.
But as I tried to touch your skin,
That space moved right there too.
Yesterday, when we held hands,
It crept between our fingers.
And even during wild embrace.
A tiny space still lingers.
At first, it made me angry,
For keeping us apart.
But then I realized,
That small space,
Connects us,
Heart to heart.
