Ellen K.

Departure.

Soon you leave for somewhere colder,
somewhere you belong.
Don’t go, I plead. Stay a little longer.
You look sad, but say no.

I’ll miss you and the season we’ve shared
Four months of endless adventures;
Waking up to white wonderlands
and frozen lakes glistening like mirrors.

I learned to deal with your polar nature
From clear blue skies to bleak gray clouds
and cool nights followed by sharp cold days
Sharp changes- it’s who you are.

What’s happening right now,
you couldn’t see it coming
as the frost turns to water, snow to rain
and hints of green gains freedom…

Taking your luggage,
your things, the memories, everything
all sodden with water and grime-
You vanish without warning.
